~Urban Moon Wolf~The Voice of the Night~

“If you listen close at night you will hear the creatures of the dark, all of them sacred – the owls, the crickets, the frogs, the night birds. And you will hear beautiful songs, songs you have never heard before. Listen with your heart. Never stop listening.”

~ Henry Quick Bear (Lakota)

Glowing, hazy auroras surrounding the black magic star wolf, his intense gaze fixed on the entrance to the Wolf-ways. Solstice solar-flare black-moon wolf fired with lunar ice and alive with skating bursts of solar energy sliding in burning gold bolts across his silken coat, illuminating the heart-power of the solitary intergalactic moon wolf, racing upstate through his sun-fired body with the flames of life and interstellar dreams.

He paused, head thrown high eyes to galactic space, alight with the fire and the power of the celestial wolf, the light of every wolf- way that had ever been, shining in a light brighter than the morning sun. He tossed star-black head, soft velvet fur shining gently in the lunar night. Looking out, alert, across the radar topped office buildings, the cool future-night sky beyond and above them, tiny sleepy clouds trailing wisps amongst the murmuring sighs of the music of the cosmos.

The silence of eternity captured in an interplanetary dream. Pools of black lunar light sinking silently into the mystery of dark moon visions, catching the rippling, silken moon beams in fluid star-black eyes. Dream catcher. He halted in the mists of time, poised on the edge of forever, distant astral gaze seeing into eternity in timeless wonder. Fathomless voids of high-tech future biospheres encompassing tomorrow’s dreams in a future reality far from the timeless zones that stretched ahead of him, reaching out in wisps of interworld light clouds.

Fire moons danced and swayed across the darkened, sultry wolf-fired eyes, drifting and swirling past night shadowed canyons. Troughs and peaks of sharp, jutting alien-rock formations reaching endlessly into smoked-fire skies of a night world of volcanoes – reflected in the all-seeing eyes of the Fire Wolves of Io.

“Those worlds in space are as countless as all the grains of sand on all the beaches of Earth”

“We on Earth have just awakened to the great oceans of space and time from which we emerged. We are the legacy of 15 billion years of cosmic evolution. It is well within our power to destroy our civilisation and perhaps our species as well…But we are also capable of using our compassion and our intelligence, our technology and our wealth to make an abundant and meaningful life for every inhabitant of this planet.”

The Silence of Eternity

Moon_Song_Wolf

“Those worlds in space are as countless as all the grains of sand on all the beaches of Earth” ~ Carl Sagen

Lunar frost mountain tops contrasted with the stark black of cosmic space, the cold glitter of distant stars strangely bright in the clear skies. A New Moon star wolf watched silently from the ghostly lunar sentinels and alien crags and rock faces, dusted with layers of silvered regolith. Star silvered moon watcher on an alien moon

A sliver of sunlight slanted above the horizon. The first shadow of dark ring world system rising on moons dawn lit horizon, the impossible deep purple world rising steadily to hang in silent ringed beauty, filling the entire horizon of the moon world. The New moon star wolf watched silently. Viewing the silence of eternity for the first time, caught in its dark ringed alienness.

New wolf moon. Huge and bold it hung dark and shadowed in a mystical sky high over the Europan plains home of the wolf gates. Moon wolf watching. Glowing silver star wolf answering the call of its star kindred, calling the haunting song of the time-moon wolf across the red skins of another world, a mysterious, matted globe glowing dimly in the sky of another world.

Standing against the roiling storm banks, rearing up ahead, dark, brooding green and blue storm clouds stealing menacingly across a wind-blown horizon.

The rainbows of life following the storms…

The song of the stars echoing gently the void that was Europa’s outer limits. The velvet blackness of interstellar space . Tiny moons dwarfed by the mother world’s size and luminosity glittering silently in the winking void, tiny star-ships moving steadily closer through the silent darkness.

As the ancient myth makers knew we are children of the Earth and the sky. We on Earth have just awakened to the great oceans of space and time from which we emerged. We are the legacy of 15 billion years of cosmic evolution. One of the great revelations of the age of space exploration is the image of the Earth, finite and lonely and somehow vulnerable, bearing the entire human species through the oceans of space and time. ~ (Who speaks for Earth)

The sky calls to us. If we do not destroy ourselves, we will one day venture to the stars. ~ (The Backbone of the Night) Carl Sagen

The Shores of the Cosmic Ocean   20 comments

Sky Blue Moons

“We began as wanderers and we are wanderers still. We have lingered long enough on the shores of the cosmic ocean.

We are ready to set sail for the stars”

~ Carl Sagen

Sky blue moons rose on a bright early-morning, alien-world horizon, lighting up the spring sky of another world. Songs of the sol-light wound through the rarefied atmosphere drifting through the sol-lit Europan moon wolf. She walked in star dreams, future wolf fired with gold-the burning fire of the cosmos. Born of burnished, cold star-fire, guardian of the wolf gates, and interstellar traveller from galaxies far distant, daughter of the stars and dreamer of the moon dream. Caller of the star song and lunar-light dreams, fired by the consuming power of the star-streams and the call of the cosmos.

High on a plateau over- looking the frozen ice deserts of Europa and the darker shadowed regions of Thera and Thrace Macula, flashes of the wolf ways etched in fiery star-lit eyes, the Europa’s moon-wolf stood still and watchful at the gateway to worlds, head thrown high into the soft plains wind ruffling her coat, lifting it lightly in sol-fired strands of moon dreams. She gazed out into space softly spangled ears, pricked forward, damp nose scenting the cool morning air drifting across the cratered region below-the frozen Plains where Europa’s Wolf Gates are located. Glowing gateways between worlds. The galaxies space ways, negotiated by the wild star wolves, finely honed instincts guiding their safe rite of passage between galactic worlds. An elusive natural phenomenon well known but little understood. Surrounded by mystery.

Alien wolf on an alien world, calling the unfathomable song of the stars. Guardian of the wolf gates and path finder of the wolf ways. All alien off-worldly star dreams. Cosmic dreams swam in burning wolf-eyes the whispering call of the highest ranking alpha wolf, swirling on the borders of the consciousness of the star wolves attuned to its dream-like call. Caught in the surging whirlwind of the powers inherent within her, she stood still and tall foreseeing all in the dreams of the star-bred moon wolves of Europa, eyes distant and gazing, already at the horizon of another world beyond the wolf gates, seeing what wasn’t yet there. Dream chaser, night wolf, runner in the shadows.

Following the call of the rift wolves she flew along the wolf ways engaging the power of the star streams, gliding in azure ribbons of crystal light along the blue-bathed wolf ways negotiating the wolf gates with the ease of the true Pathfinder, drawn across worlds by the power of the stars, crystal blue eyes alight with a sense of purpose that burned interstellar fire, as star-paths swept by in a blur of scenery, here and gone in the blink of a space dog’s azure eyes. Leading ever onwards to her destiny and the call of the rift wolves, answering an ancient call of the stars.

She stepped out into a new world of fathomless winds, throwing up the desert red sands in billowing wind formations whipping the thin atmosphere into forming alien landscapes, a running ghost in the rising dust clouds and the valley peaks and troughs. Windswept as a sulphur-tinged breeze lifted her silken coat into the alien airways. Dim infra-red moon light filtering through her coat and her spirit till she became one with the world and stood proud and free to survey her kingdom across the endless canyons. In the Eyes_of a Star Wolf

“The Wolf’s spirit burns bright as the fire of the sun.

I looked into the eyes of a wolf and I saw my own heart…

I looked through the eyes of a star-wolf

And I saw cities in the sky, worlds beyond the stars…”

~  Know Me!, Europa’s Icewolf 2010

Earth’s sea hung in the alien sky, a heartbreakingly beautiful globe of intransient sky blue and frothing cloud-white. Bright blue sea geysers shot into the void with a burst of azure spray and the dolphins of marine Earth plummeted into the water and sky celebrating all that life was and would be and bringing with them the hope of the future for Extra Terrestrial Life.

“SETI  Project”
The Search For Extra Terrestrial Intelligence
There are 100billion trillion planets that can host life.  Researchers have studied the conditions necessary to support life and calculated there could be between 361 and 38,000 ‘intelligent civilisations’ on other planets although what  form they would take remains unknown.  It is ‘inevitable that Earth-like planets exist and that we will find a planet able to support life, possibly within the next 4 years.

The chances of finding intelligent life are only fleeting because in terms of the universe it only exists for a fraction of time.  Extra Terrestrial life could be living unnoticed amongst us right now because it would consist of microbes and DNA structure that humans would not recognise.

SETI researchers aren’t actually looking for the Extra Terrestrials themselves; they are hunting for evidence of their technology.  They do this by scanning the skies for radio or light signals that would tell us that creatures of high enough intelligence to build a transmitter on a high-powered laser, exist out there.  These experiments try to detect intelligence hundreds or thousands of light-years away, and because of that considerable distance any immediate concerns that the SETI quest might be dangerous can be ruled out.

The reasons for doing this, given that any signals discovered would be from life we will probably never meet:

            • We might learn something.
            • We would know we are not alone – of great philosophical importance
            • Knowing there is other intelligent life out there would also answer the question of how likely is it that a planet with life that would produce intelligent life.

SETI@HOME:  The SETI home project has been running since May 1999. It was the first project to analyse a vast amount of data, in this case gathered by radio telescopes around the world, by cutting it into packets of data (work units) and sending to millions of idle computers connected to the Internet, where it is analysed by downloadable software that operates on your computer as a screensaver.

  SETI@home screen saver at work

Once analyzed results are sent via the internet back to the project HQ in Berkeley and another work unit is down-loaded onto your PC.  The screen saver looks for signals of various narrow bandwidths and pulse rates, and signals that might drift slowly up or down the dial.  If it’s your PC that finds that signal, then you will be the first person in all history to prove the existence of intelligent beings.

To get involved in actually doing SETI research log on to http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/. Fill in your details and take a few moments to download Uni of California at Berkeley’s popular screen saver, SETI@home.

The next generation SETI@home is 500 times more powerful than anything anyone has done before.  That means we are 500 times more likely to find ET than with the original SETI@home.
